Dear Fashion Girls Friends and Volunteers,

We are pleased to inform you that this month a small public facility (Minna no Ie or "Home for All"), designed by a group of renowned architects Toyo Ito, Sosuke Fujimoto, Kumiko Inui, and Akihisa Hirata, will be open to public in Rikuzentakata--one of many towns flattened by tsunami after the 3.11 earthquake that hit northeastern Japan in 2011. The house will be used by town residents who are still living in temporary shelters even today to gather and discuss the future of the town and its people. The majority of construction expenses was funded by our successful 2nd anniversary sale which we held at the Bowery Hotel in April, raising over $140,000. This is the first project directly funded by Fashion Girls since we became a non profit organization, and we are planning to give our remaining funds to a few more public facilities project a place for children before year end. This particular project was showcased at the 13th Venice Architecture Biennale in the Japan Pavilion which was awarded with the Golden Lion Prize for best national presentation. Toyo Ito, Sosuke Fujimoto, Kumiko Inui, and Akihisa Hirata showed over 100 models created based on their close dialogue with town residents. We are fortunate to work with amazing designers and volunteers in New York as well as a group talented architects who made this happen in such a short period of time (only 7 months since the sale). In those towns, reconstruction and rebuilding homes will take years if not decade. Please learn more about this project from here.

Thanks again, and we look forward to working with you again next year!
