OUR STORY

FASHION GIRLS FOR HUMANITY is a charitable 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was founded by fashion industry leaders Julie Gilhart, Kikka Hanazawa, Miki Higasa, and Tomoko Ogura in the wake of the 2011 Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Disaster. FGFH has evolved its mission to bring humanitarian services and funds to communities in need through its global network of fashion and design industry professionals. 

In the last several years post Hurricane Sandy and Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Disaster, typhoon Haiyan, Nepal relief, FGFH with the help of designers such as Alexander Wang, Derek Lam, Diane von Furstenberg, Marc Jacobs, Oscar de la Renta, Proenza Schouler, Ralph Lauren, and Thom Browne who were among the designers who contributed, raised approximately $1,000,000 in total to benefit relief and rebuilding efforts.

In 2014, Fashion Girls for Humanity was honored the Game Changers Award from the Asia Society in recognition of inspiring, enlightening, and for exercising leadership in areas that reflect Asia Society’s core pillars of policy and business, arts and culture, and education.

2011

Japan Earthquake & Tsunami

Funded the construction of community centers and social and economic projects in the Tohoku region.

Funded the construction of the "Home for All" community center in Rikuzentakata designed by Toyo Ito.

Post-Sandy Restoration

Restored 6 firehouses in New York and Long Island after Sandy in partnership with Waves for Water.

Invited 117 children affected by the Japan Earthquake to snowboard in partnership with CHILL.

Typhoon Haiyan in Philippines

The Fashion For the Philippines project was implemented in the Visayan Islands of the Philippines. 1,600 water filters delivered to 160,000 people in Philippines in partnership with W4W

Nepal Relief

In response to the devastation in Nepal from the 7.8 magnitude earthquake, we donated provided the fund for the relief work operated by W4W and Shikshya Foundation

2020

Lebanon Relief

In response to the devastating explosions in Beirut, Lebanon, we funded relief works operated by Souk El Tayeb Farmers’ Market, Offre Joie, and Starch Foundation in addition to sending hundreds of PPEs and masks.⁠⠀

2020-2021

Covid-19 Response & Aid

In addition to producing and donating more than 20,000 PPE gowns to facilities in need, we also provided PPE resources to people around the world.
