Support Fashion Girls for the Front Lines

Dear  Friends,

It was nine years ago in March when we established Fashion Girls for Humanity (formerly Fashion Girls for Japan) in the wake of the 2011 Japan Earthquake and Tsunami disaster. We are truly grateful to all of you for your contribution and support which enabled us to raise funds to help the people of Fukushima and other disaster relief efforts we had since initiated.   In recent years, FGFH has evolved our mission to humanitarian services and communities in need through our global network of fashion and design industry professionals.

We are in the midst of unprecedented times. One that none of us ever expected nor imagined, and this global pandemic is affecting all of us, our families, our communities, businesses and how we live. Our thoughts are with anyone who has been impacted by the virus whether it be directly or indirectly, and our hearts especially go out to those who are sick, and we wish you a full recovery.

Economists from around the world, whether they lean left, right or center, all mutually agree and stress the importance of public health before anything. And ever since we have learned of the dire shortage of basic Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) our medical workers are in need of, the four of us have spent a lot of time discussing, and listening to many of you in the fashion industry  as well as experts in the field who share our sense of urgency to facilitate and contribute to the medical and healthcare worker’s wellbeing.  Medical and healthcare workers need PPE to protect them so they can protect us.

Together with the Asia Society, who have been a huge supporter of FGFH over the years, and Fashion For The Front Lines, we bring you two information hubs that will not only inform, but provide all the necessary tools such as downloadable patterns on how to make a face mask or gown, a list of hospitals and facilities that are seeking donations or purchases of PPE, as well as companies currently involved in producing PPE so that we can better help, connect and serve the medical and healthcare community to the supplies they need.

We are also raising funds to support Front-Line Medical Workers in the global battle against the COVID-19 pandemic through GoFundMe  (click below) so we can conquer this current and future public health crisis together.

With gratitude,

Julie Gilhart,  Kikka Hanazawa,  Miki Higasa and Tomoko Ogura
