Creating Shelter in Times of Crisis: Welcome to Home for Humanity
We are excited to introduce Home for Humanity. This project has been a journey for me, fueled by the belief that everyone deserves a safe place to call home, no matter their circumstances. Around the world, millions of people are facing homelessness—not only because of economic hardship but also because of natural disasters, political conflicts, and other crises. From the devastating wildfires in Hawaii to the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, to ongoing conflicts in Ukraine, the need for adaptable, sustainable housing is more urgent than ever.
Why We Built Home for Humanity
Home for Humanity started with a simple idea: create a resource that empowers people to build safe, affordable shelters quickly and with minimal resources. Our platform offers DIY tiny home designs that are affordable, eco-friendly, and adaptable to different climates and conditions.
How It Works: Bringing Global Expertise to Local Needs
Our platform is the product of a global collaboration. We were incredibly lucky to work with architecture graduate students and faculty from ETH Zurich, under the guidance of Professors Momoyo Kaijima and Lauren Stadler. They’re a brilliant team, representing various parts of the world, which helps ensure that our designs address different regional needs. Home for Humanity is a multilingual platform, making it accessible for people in many parts of the world who are facing crises.
On the platform, you’ll find step-by-step guides, materials lists, and instructional videos to help anyone interested in building these shelters. Each design is made to be flexible, using common materials and tools so that it can be adapted to fit local requirements. We’ve also incorporated AI-powered multilingual and text-to-speech features to make this platform accessible to as many people as possible, no matter their background or location.
What’s Next: Expanding Our Shelter Options
Soon, we’ll be adding more shelter options to the platform, including DIY designs tailored for developed countries like the United States. These upcoming models will focus on ease of construction, comfort, and meeting the specific needs of people facing homelessness or housing instability in urban settings. Our goal is to make these resources as widely available and useful as possible, no matter where someone might need a safe place to call their own.
Join Us in Building a Better Future
By joining Home for Humanity, you’re helping to create a world where safe shelter is available to everyone. Our resources are here to support communities, individuals, and organizations in building homes that provide stability, safety, and dignity. Explore our platform, connect with others who share this mission, and become part of a global movement to make a difference, one shelter at a time.
