1000 PPE Gown Production

1000 PPE Gown Production

Dear Friends,

We are excited to share with you that your support has allowed Fashion Girls For Humanity (FGFH) to donate our first 1,000 Gowns for Good Made in America isolation gowns to two hospitals in NYC, MAIMONIDES MEDICAL CENTER in Brooklyn and BRONXCARE HEALTH SYSTEM in the Bronx on Friday May 15th.  As NYC continues to be one of the hardest hit cities in the country, these hospitals are still struggling with the shortage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for their Frontline medical workers in their battle against the COVID-19 pandemic and we hope you can continue to support us in our mission to produce more PPE to be donated to Frontline workers in need.  We will be following with a second production order of gowns very soon.

We  are also  thrilled to  announce  FGFH’s partnership with The RealReal to launch a
charity designer mask sale on their site which started on Monday May 18th.  The sale features a curated collection of designer masks by Albertus Swanepoel, Alabama Chanin, Collina Strada, Greg Lauren, Gypsy Sport, Karla Colletto, Maison Modulare, M.Patmos and Sea with more designers being added throughout the month.  These reusable masks are designed for universal masking to arm the public with face masks that are both functional and fashionable.  The RealReal is donating 100 percent of its proceeds from the mask sale to FGFH Gowns for Good Made in America initiative, as well as providing transportation to deliver gowns from NYC Garment District makers to local hospitals in need.

Gowns for Good Made in America is our initiative to support Frontline medical workers in the global battle against the COVID-19 pandemic.  The initiative uses our funding to support small businesses within the fashion and garment industries in the US that have pivoted their manufacturing to create PPE to keep their factories operating and their staff employed.  The PPE produced in these factories will then be donated to the hospitals with the most need nationwide.  Our Level 2 isolation gowns are currently produced by the NYC Manufacturer’s Coalition, a group of 4 NYC garment industry factories owned by diverse immigrants operating with safety protocols in place to maintain a safe working environment for their sewers.

In addition, the FGFH website which provides various resources for those interested in making PPE such as patterns for download and video tutorials to make face masks and gowns has been accessed by over 90,000 people in 146 countries across the world (this is an 18% increase in visitors in just one week!). We have continued to receive so much positive feedback from users accessing our website who have found the resources they need to produce PPE for their local communities in need.  If you have created PPE using any of our resources, please share with us @fashiongirlsforhumanity so that we can repost and inspire others to keep making PPE. To learn more, please visit www.fashiongirlsforhumanity.org.

We ask that you help us SUPPORT OUR FRONTLINERS so we can conquer this current and future public health crisis together by donating to and sharing our campaign to help us reach our goal of $250,000.  Continued donations will allow us to keep rolling out the production of more gowns to be delivered to additional healthcare facilities in need.

With gratitude,

Julie Gilhart, Kikka Hanazawa, Miki Higasa and Tomoko Ogura
